Time for Disposable Paper Screens

23 November 2010: Ordinary paper now has the potential to be as dynamic as any screen. Engineers at the University of Cincinnati have developed e-paper – a screen that looks like paper but behaves like a computer monitor. The aim is to create a full-colour screen that is cheap, fast and disposable. Through a process known as electrowetting – where coloured pigments are moved from pixel to pixel with electronic charges - vibrant color and fast response times with video capability are enabled; a feature yet to hit current E-ink screens. Despite the success so far, the process is still three to five years from consumer application.
