17 January 2011: The average value of a Facebook fan is US$136.38, at least according to calculations made by social media company Syncapse. In a study of 20 successful brands with strong social media presences, Syncapse found that an average fan typically spends around US$72.00 on products they ‘like’ on Facebook, though this amount varies greatly in regards to sales penetration, brand health and Facebook marketing effectiveness. A Facebook fan is also 28% more likely than a non-fan to continue being a loyal consumer while also being 41% more likely to recommend the product or service to their group of friends. While the findings of this research show the value of your social media investment varies depending on its effectiveness, there is definite tangible value to growing your fan base on Facebook.
