1 March 2011: With more and more Near Field Communication (NFC)-enabled devices hitting the shelves, advertisers are beginning to consider their potential for changing how people interact with ads. Unlike Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, NFC technology enables users to transmit and receive information without draining the battery. Due to its incredibly short range – mere centimetres –the technology is perfect for the sharing simple information and makes it possible for advertisers to embed information into traditional advertising such as posters and signage. By simply holding the device over the ad, users would be able to receive coupons or be directed to the brand website.
