5 January 2011: While Millennials still dominate the Web, a new survey from Pew Research shows that older generations are quickly finding their feet online. While emailing, searching and reading news are still the most popular activities across all age groups, online shopping and watching videos are gaining in popularity, with 66 percent of all online adults taking part in these activities. Surprisingly, when it comes to online shopping it is the Older Boomers (aged 56-64) who are most likely to buy online, with 69 percent of those surveyed having done so. Millennials (aged 18-33) are close behind, with 68 percent making online purchases. These young people also most commonly watch videos online, with a huge 80 percent hitting play on videos embedded in sites such as YouTube. This activity is on the rise with those in Gen X (aged 34-45) and the Younger Boomers (aged 46-55), with 66 and 62 percent respectively watching online video content.
