1 March 2011: Coca-Cola is preparing to make its mark on the music world with their latest crowdsourcing campaign. Using existing networks on Facebook and Twitter, Coca-Cola is challenging the popular band, Maroon 5, to come up with a new song in just 24 hours. The twist is that fans watching the session live online will be able to take part in the creative process, giving their opinions on everything from lyrics to riffs and rhythms. Fans can participate virtually in the London-based session by logging on to Coca-Cola Music – a platform that enables them to send in words, pictures and comments, as well as ask the band questions. Coca-Cola will be keeping fans posted on the band’s progress through their established Twitter account. This real-time marketing campaign is designed to further fuel discussion about the brand on social media, though Coca-Cola already has a foot up in this department with their Facebook account currently attracting over 20 million fans.
