3 January 2011: Apple is the latest entrant into the glasses-less 3D arena having just been granted a patent for new display technology that will produce both 3D and holographic images without the need for special lenses. The screens will deflect images taken from slightly different angles into the left and right eye of the viewer, creating 3D images of the objects on view. What makes this technology more exciting is the fact that it will also be able to produce pseudo-holographic images by tracking and responding to viewers’ eye movements. This will allow viewers to move around a virtual object and observe it from multiple angles. It is thought that this technology will pave the way for a new generation of 3D gadgets and holographic films.
